摘要
The reducing agent used in the electric furnaces at the majority of yellow-phosphorus plants, both here and in other countries, is metallurgical coke and/or breeze. It has however been shown that special types of coke can be used for this purpose. The laboratory investigation that is described, was investigated with the purpose of inding out whether the production of phosphorus in Kazakhstan could use coals from the Karagande coalfield as reductant. It has been ascertained that standard commercial coke ovens are capable of producing a high-ash (21-22 per cent) coke from Karaganda coals which can be used by the phosphorus plants as a substitute for the metallurgical coke currently used.
