Kobe Steel has developed an integrated pulverized coal injection (PCI) system by incorporating the distribution technology for pulverized coal, licensed by Petrocarb, Inc. of USA, with techniques of drying and pulverizing of coal, and injection and combustion technology of pulverized coal in a blast furnace developed by Kobe Steel. This paper summarizes the technical developments and the features of PCI, and the outlines of the facilities under construction.
