Results are presented of a study to obtain a selective coating on the surface of IKh18NIOT stainless steel by mechanical working and thermal annealing in a moist hydrogen atmosphere. It is shown that surfaces with good optical characteristics - integral absorptivity alpha //s equals 0. 88-0. 93 and integral emissivity epsilon equals 0. 2-0. 3 - can be obtained by grinding and subsequent thermal annealing.
