Magnetic Filters and Separators.

The state-of-the-art of magnetic filtering and separating is reviewed. The underlying principles of permanent magnets and electromagnets are explained, and the requirements imposed on efficient magnetic filters and separators are defined. Finally, potential practical applications are discussed; particular attention is given to the Spillner-Krupp permanent magnet method for condensate filtration, and to an electromagnetic filter developed in the United States which offers interesting prospects for effluent filtration.
