A computer program for solving the heat flow equation was tested as a means of describing the thermal history of welds. Comparison of the computed values with those determined for macrosections of actual welds shows good correlation of the fusion temperature isotherm and the A//1 isotherm. Thus, a computer program can be used to produce graphical displays of both the maximum temperatures and the moving temperature field in horizontal and vertical planes of welded plate. The computations also serve to plot thermal cycles and three-dimensional displays of the moving temperature field.
