Investigation of the kinetics of decomposition of undercooled nitrogenous austenite of low-alloyed steels

The isothermal diagrams of low-alloyed steels with elevated nitrogen content containing 0.5-2% Cr and 3% Mn are constructed with the use of magnetometric analysis. Nitrogen is introduced into the steel by temperature and pressure treatment. It is shown that nitrogen, as an alloying element, enhances the stability of the austenite. The structural features of the decomposition products are studied and the martensitic points determined using methods of X-ray crystallographic analysis, electron microscopy and dilatometry.
