The cryostat described is designed for x-ray studies of crystals in the temperature range of 4.2-300°K and in magnetic fields of up to 5.5 T and consists of two independent devices: a removable cryogenic system with a superconducting solenoid and an x-ray attachment, which is rigidly connected to a goniometer shaft. With temperature variation and the action of a strong magnetic field on the specimen, the rigid connection ensures that the position of the crystal holder is stable with respect to the goniometer axis with an accuracy of 2 angular minutes. The specimen temperature is varied by gas thermostatic control. The cryostat contains a mechanism for adjustment and rotation of the specimen in its plane.
