It's all about the economy

The recent report of the Institute of Public Policy Research on manufacturing was reviewed by Richard Brooks. There were some grave concerns that resulted in this report. One was the difficulties faced by the manufacturing sector in the UK from the mid 1990s onwards. Second concern was the perception that the UK govt had neglected the manufacturing sector. Richard Brooks concludes that the maintenance of an advantageous tax and regulatory regime, a period of micro economic policy stability and continued efforts to increase workforce skills through the mainstream education system strikes the right balance for both the manufacturing sector and the UK government.
