This paper discusses the development of diamond impregnated wire as a versatile tool for cutting. It offers the advantage of cutting all types of materials from the most fragile crystal to the hardest carbide. It emphasizes the particular advantage of maintaining surface integrity, of cutting small angles, contours and radii which are of special interest to the die making industry. The paper also discusses a six-wheel diamond polishing and lapping system which will produce optically flat and scratch-free surfaces.
