Flow measurement of industrial wastewater discharges is rapidly becoming more necessary. A constriction in the flow line develops a pressure head, which is related to flow. Measurements are made in closed pipe applications or open channels. Methods of measuring the flow in weirs and flumes are discussed and compared including non-contacting ultrasonic equipment and more traditional contacting types. Benefits to the industrial user who measures flow are also considered.
