This paper concerns the optimization of the dynamic dispatch (DD) of the thermal generations; DD results are particularly useful not only for determining the trajectories of thermal units during steep load pick-up periods but also in a very short term dispatch to be included in the automatic generation control (AGC). Starting from the optimal trajectories of the real power output which are provided by DD to match a short term forecast load, the new post optimal dispatch (DPO) is able to modify these trajectories in order to follow the updated load estimation provided on-line. The DPO algorithm gives results very close to those obtained by running DD with the modified load profile, and has the advantage of requiring a much shorter computing time. DPO results have also been compared with the trajectories recomputed by means of the constrained participation factors.
