The following three new ideas are introduced to adaptive Newton-Cotes quadrature methods. (1) Refinement of error estimation. (2) Relaxation of convergence criterion. (3) Treatment of extraordinary points. By virtue of these improvements, reliability, efficiency and versatility of the methods are largely enhanced. 13 erfs.
