This article reports on a study of magnetic garnet light waveguides using the mode spectroscopy method with special attention to dispersion curves of the index of refraction and to double planar structures. The dispersion curves of the index of refraction in case of thin garnet films with the general (YSmLuCa)//3O//1//2 composition in the visible and neighboring infrared region were determined with an accuracy better than 0. 5% using the mode spectroscopy and the reflex interference method. The theoretical light beam propagation model simulating light beam propagation in a thin film was extended to the case of a double parallel planar system.
