A methodical presentation of the sequence and content of calculations that have to be performed when determining the reliability of mechanical systems at the design stage is given. The article considers and systematizes the experience of Soviet and non-Soviet authors. A description of an algorithm for the calculation of the reliability of mechanical systems with the aid of a computer by the method of not exceeding is given.
