In a heteropolar electric machine in which the rotor is in a central position with regard to the core of the stator, there is no tendency for fluxes to flow axially through the shaft to the bearings. In the case of an eccentric position such a tendency is known to exist. The dependence of this tendency on the number of poles is explained.
