The possibility of intergranular phase interlayers providing mass transfer during high-temperature diffusion deformation of refractory metal polycrystals is discussed. An approximate theory is advanced for the deformation process of polycrystals with phase interlayers, and asymptotic formulae are derived. Creep tests were performed on tungsten alloyed with nickel. The measurements are interpreted within the framework of developed representations of the deformation mechanism.
