Man B&W Holeby in Denmark has developed a unique cost saving combination diesel and power turbine auxiliary marine generator set for shipboard use. A diesel and turbine have been combined to provide primarily turbine-produced power through the engine crank-shaft directly. Here the power turbine is supplying up to 90% of the output of the generator set directly through the engine crankshaft. The keys to the operation of this system are the turbine and its drive arrangement which are tandem mounted with the diesel engine.
