摘要：
Semiconductor houses are producing a great variety of 16-bit microcontrollers. Hitachi, National Semiconductor, and NEC are coming into the market, while Intel is updating its existing part. The author reviews the expanded capabilities of the latest microcontrollers, including faster clocks and universal functions in core. A 16-bit TRON (the Realtime Operating Nucleus) family controller by Hitachi is described.
