NEW ZINC-ALUMINUM ALLOYS AND THEIR NEAR NET SHAPE CAPABILITIES.

A new family of high aluminum-containing zinc alloys, radically different from traditional zinc die casting alloys, has been developed for gravity casting and for high-performance die casting. These alloys provide a choice for designers who are applying the high strengths and wear resistant characteristics of the new alloys using cast-to-size and near net shape processes. This paper reviews the engineering properties of the new alloys, and expands upon their near net shape manufacturing advantages.
