摘要
A novel cross-linked PVC, fire-resistant and very tough, is replacing textile-reinforced insulations in Bell System telephone central offices. Electron beam radiation does the corss-linking, in air, rather than in the customary vacuum. Advantages of the new insulation are ability to withstand abrasion during installation and removal, resistance to softening during soldering operations and flame resistance.
