Brewing Industry: the Oldest Field of Biotechnology is a Modern Process Industry.

In 1984 the Finnish breweries produced 290 million litres of beer and 195 million litres of soft drinks. In 1983 annual per captia consumption of beer and soft drinks was 57 and 40 litres, respectively. Today there are five brewing companies with altogether 12 production plants. Although the beer consumption and beer production are relatively moderate on an international scale, the standard of the Finnish brewing industry as well as the Finnish beer is high. The Finnish brewing industry, with most of its equipment, has been renewed almost completely during the past 20 years.
