Extraction of copper from Um samuki, Egypt, was carried out by using sulphuric acid in the presence of ferric sulphate as oxidizing agent. A mathematical model was developed describing the overall process kinetics at different reaction temperatures (30 degree C-85 degree C), different sizes of particles (100-200 mesh) and different catalyst concentrations (0. 05-0. 125 mol/litre). Global rate constants were determined; their values ranged from 1. 195 multiplied by (times) 10** minus **3 to 5. 114 multiplied by (times) 10** minus **3; and the energy of activation was found to be 12463 cal/mol.
