Alcan's hostile bid efforts to buy Pechiney are discussed. Alcan's bid is a reflection of its efforts to become a major player in the global aluminium market. Pechiney has rejected Alcan's Euro 3.4 billion take-over offer. Alcan has 90 plants in 41 countries including the recently acquired VAW FlexPac.
