Results of an investigation into the share of transverse sectioning on the structures of the flow of a liquid on a direct-flow valve plate are presented. The investigation was carried out on a cold rectangular setup comprising one plate with the area of the contact bed 400 multiplied by 300 mm, on a water-air system under liquid loads from 5 to 40 m**3/m multiplied by (times) hr) and gas velocity factors from 0. 25 to 3. 34 left bracket kg/(m multiplied by (times) s**2) right bracket **0**. **5. It is found that the share of the transverse sectioning has an effect on the average time of stay of the liquid on the plate and on the scatter of the time of stay. With an increase in the share of transverse sectioning, the average time of stay of the liquid on the plate increases, and the scatter decreases. Formulas are obtained making it possible to determine the average time of stay of the liquid on the plate and dispersion of the time of stay depending on the value of the share of transverse sectioning and parameter of operating conditions.
