Torsional vibration is a leading cause of rotational equipment breakdown. Various failure modes are described, and a practical method of torsional analysis for rotating machinery is presented. Vibration tests for the existing equipment vibration dampers, rubber damper couplings and the costs involved are discussed. Typical applications in variable-speed motors, grinding mill drives, cement kiln drives, and rolling mill drives are briefly described.
