During hot working of the Austenite in the structure of low alloy steel, work hardening and the subsequent softening cannot be measured because these processes, especially recrystallization, consume much less time than any measurement does. During fast cooling, structural and hardness changes by transformation prevent testing. It was possible by physical interpretation of the constants of the Avrami equation to determine the rates of decreasing crystal growth and crystal nucleation during recrystallization. The results indicate that softening processes occur in the structure simultaneously with recrystallization.
