Digital cellular technology is rapidly conquering the world. The GSM 900 and DCS 1800 standards are spreading to an increasing number of countries and operators worldwide. Ericsson offers a wide range of infrastructure products and services for GSM/DCS operators, including switching, base station and transmission subsystems, service control points and multimedia messaging systems, and a supporting homogeneous network planning and management system. The author describes how CME 20, Ericsson's GSM/DCS system solution, is tailored to an increasingly competitive cellular environment. Different parts of the CME 20 system, their functionality and implementation, the telephony services offered, and the auxiliary customer support services from Ericsson are also described.
