Based on the principle of exergy economy, the equation for annual total cost of heating steam pipe was derived by analyzing the process of carrying steam, which can be used to discuss the effects of pipe diameter and insulation thickness on the annual total cost. Synchro-design method for heating steam pipeline and its insulation was presented. From the point of reducing the annual total cost of carrying steam, the calculating formulas of the optimum diameter of heating steam pipe and optimum insulation thickness were obtained.
