Electric arc steelmaking offers high cost advantages for alloy steel or carbon steel production. A prime requirement for electric melting operations is high quality graphite electrodes, manufactured from petroleum cokes and pitch, and utilizing large quantities of electricity for graphitizing. The production, machining, chemical composition, etc, of electrodes are described.
