摘要
The aim of this work was to study the thermal-shock resistance of slag cast articles in relation to their form (tiles, cylinders), and the size and rate of cooling. Comparison of the thermal-shock resistance of articles of various shapes shows that the property for pipes is somewhat higher than for tiles. This is probably because in the same thermal-stress conditions the levels of stress formed in the cylinder are normally lower than in the tile; moreover, the stresses in the cylinder are more easily relaxed. The maximum thermal-shock resistance for both types of articles is characterized by castings with the maximum thickness and the minimum cooling rate (maximum mold temperature for the limits studied). These conditions contribute to the formation in the material of a coarsely crystalline defect structure, which is confirmed by petrographic analysis.
