Changing trends in the design and manufacture of caps and closures are discussed. In the offering are significant revisions in protocol-test procedures, tighter quality assurance control on child-resistant closures, and a re-examination of noncomplying container situations at retail. The development of mechanical standards that would serve as an alternate to the cumbersome protocol-test is considered. Practical examples of some new closures and caps are given and illustrated.
