The free convection in a cavity differently heated on two opposite sides and with insulating top and bottom walls was studied by the use of a finite element penalty function solution of the Navier-Stokes and energy equations. Inclined cavitites of A equals 1 were investigated for high Ra numbers and the results were compared with available previous solutions. The influence of a good mesh refinement near the hot and cold walls was analyzed and new results were reported using the optimal grid for any Ra number.
