Economic considerations are the primary reasons for recycling portland cement concrete (PCC) as aggregate in PCC pavements, although environmental benefits often are derived as well. In many instances, the recycling of PCC as aggregate in a new concrete is a viable alternative to the use of natural aggregate. Research has shown that with proper planning, testing, and construction techniques, high-quality concrete can be made using recycled PCC as aggregate.
