Interactions Between Synoptic Vortices in the Ocean.

The results of numerical experiments on simulating the interaction between synoptic vortices in the open ocean are discussed. It is shown that initially isolated vortices produce vortices and jets the structure of which may be perceived in observations as a dense packing of vortices. It is also shown that the vortices thus produced display the characteristic properties of Rossby waves.
