Corrosion tests of MIG welded joints in 5 mm copper sheets, made with new filler wires of type 06, 07 and 08 of 1. 2 mm in diameter, in a 10% HCl solution and a 10% solution of ammonium sulphate were studied. Welding wire 06 contained 98. 87% Cu, 0. 3% Mn and 0. 5% Al; wire 07 99. 07% Cu, 0. 2% Si, 0. 3% Mn and 0. 065% B; and wire 08 contained 98. 95% Cu, 0. 2% Si, 0. 4% Mn. The results of the corrosion tests on the joints (the test time was 75 and 135 h) and the mechanical properties of the joints prior to and after the corrosion tests are given. A metallographic analysis of the structure and surface of the welded joints after corrosion tests is included.
