In 1993, the restructuring of the Russian coal industry was started. Plans were devised to put into operation mines with total productive capacities of over 40 MT by 2000 and 57 MT by 2005. If implemented, such plans could result in the complete renewal of the production potential of the Russian coal industry and ensure extraction of about 250 MT of coal by 200 and a 1.8-2 times increase in labor productivity.
