Deposition was greatly improved by switching to the Kanigen process. Since 1967, use of the Nibodur or boranate processes has allowed the deposition of boron-containing alloys with 5 to 17.8% B. Following the classical Ni-P coatings so successfully used in applications where corrosion or wear-resistance is called for Ni-P-Ni-B, Ni-P-B coatings and electrolessly deposited multilayer coatings such as Ni-Cu-P, Ni-Fe-P or Ni-Cr-P were developed.
