On the basis of experiments and extrapolations using the finite-element method interaction diagram is determined for the flanges of T-beams. This results in the failure combination of a shear force in the flange. The inclination of the compressive strut may be determined by means of two equilibrium conditions within the flange plane, a further equilibrium equation of bending moments and the assumption of a rectangular stress block. On the basis of this, design diagrams for single- and double-layered reinforced flanges can be developed. They apply to T-beam flanges subjected to both compression and tension in the longitudinal plane.
