COAL CONVERSION TECHNOLOGY.

This volume summarizes chemical processes developed throughout the world for coal liquefaction and coal gasification with the production of synthesis gas (hydrogen) and substituted natural gas (methane). About 100 processes are briefly described and schemes for most of them are given. Conversion of lignite, oil shale, and oil sands into liquid and gaseous hydrocarbon are also dealt with. In all these processes particular emphasis is placed on desulfurization of liquid and gaseous fuels obtained from coal. Some processes described in this report are concerned with desulfurization of coal denoted for direct furnace firing in power plants.
