Detailed analyses of the operating data from a semi-commercial furnace together with subsequent smaller scale tests indicate a potential for very low copper losses in slag and a reduction in converting costs by utilizing hot low pressure air introduced into the furnace above the bath in the converting zone. The process has been demonstrated to have inherent flexibility which allows the best use to be made of the properties of a wide range of concentrates. It also has potential for a major contribution to pollution control.
