A B-Spline f. e. m. based on the B-Spline theory in which the B-Spline functions for rectangular elements are used as shape functions is presented in this paper. It provides a very effective method for solving 2-dimensional electromagnetic field problems in regular regions. Compared with the conventional f. e. m. , not only it can give more accurate potential values, but due to the inherent properties of B-Spline functions, it also yields much closer field values. Moreover, both the computing time and the storage capacity are greatly reduced. The paper successfully applies the B-Spline theory of multiple nodes to the boundaries of different media to solve the problems involving piecewise homogeneous subregions, meanwhile, the forced boundary conditions are dealt with by using the modified B-Spline base. Several typical problems having closed form solutions have been worked out as illustrations.
