The design and performance of the Subscriber Line Interface Module (SLIM) for the NEAX61 digital switching system are described. The SLIM is composed of a Subscriber Line Interface Circuit (SLIC), a four wire Analog Line Switch (ALSW), a codec, and so on. The SLIC is an electronic BORSHT using thick film hybrid microcircuit technology which satisfies the economy of the BORSHT circuit arrangement and the severe transmission characteristics requirement for a central office. The ALSW solves not only cost reduction problem, but also transmission performance problems by employing a four wire solid-state space division switch. The custom LSIs and the special components are economically designed for the feasibility of the module. NEAX61 SLIM performance meets the relevant CCITT, REA, and USITA/ATT requirements for transmission characteristics, etc.
