摘要
The advancements in polymer chemistry are utilized in thickfilm electroluminescent (EL) lighting applications, which enable lightweight, thin, and cool means of illuminating controls and displays in automotive industry. Automakers are using EL in vehicle interior situations for instrument cluster gauge backlighting, gear shift illumination, and window and lock control buttons in doors. EL allows vehicle areas to be lit without building mechanical and thermal structures to accommodate numerous lamps. The lamps consist of thin sheet are screen printed with the EL phosphors while an other layer allows the sheet to be injection molded into a variety of three-dimensional shapes and sizes. Different light effects with an EL can be achieved by varying the position of the lamp. The problem of phosphor particle deterioration from moisture and humidity is solved by encapsulating the lamps with a protective and optically clear coating.
