Results are presented of a study tour of several United States educational and commercial/industrial establishments. The purpose of the study tour was to collect information on currently used techniques and trends in software development in order to obtain the best possible basis for a literature study. Three main areas of interest are explored: programming languages, development systems, and software management. During the visits, these subjects were discussed, and notes were compiled for this report.
