A method of synthesis of worm gears according to a preset qualitative index, viz. reduced curvature of the contacting surfaces, is presented. A numerical synthesis and an analysis of a particular worm gear are carried out. The profile of the axial section of the worm fillets in the latter has a convex shape. It is established by means of comparative experimental investigations that it is possible to employ the proposed method to synthesize worm gears the jamming load of which is 1. 6-1. 8 times higher than that of worm gears with Archimedes' worm with analogous geometrical parameters.
