THERMAL EXCITATION OF A CYLINDRICAL DOMAIN STRUCTURE IN A NEMATIC LIQUID CRYSTAL.

摘要：
A 30- mu thick film of MBBA (nematic liquid crystal) was oriented by a preliminary rubbing. An increase in temperature near the phase transition to the isotropic state (T similar 40 degree C) produced first drops with a homotropic orientation surrounded by molecules with the initial planar orientation. Further increase in temperature produced cylindrical domains in these homotropic drops.
