It is shown that by optimizing the carburization process in certain ways it is possible to achieve a significant reduction in the carburization time. The optimization measures proposed include increasing the carbon transfer number and the carbon level, accelerating the rate of diffusion, and more carefully choosing the case-hardened steel. 20 refs.
