A modular construction laboratory cooling system consisting of a Dewar flask, evaporator and interchangable measuring gauges, and, capable of circulating 30 - 1000 l/hr of gaseous coolants in the 4. 2 - 400 K temperature range is described. The system has a better than plus or minus 0. 25 K/hr in the gas flow and better than plus or minus 0. 05 K/hr around the investigated sample. Fitted with the appropriate measuring gauges, the system can be used in NMR, X-ray diffraction, magnetic, Moessbauer and optical measurements.
