摘要：

The purpose of this study was to investigate joint toughness as a function of intermetallic compound morphology. By employing fracture toughness testing, a materials property characteristic of the fracture process is obtained. Scanning electon microscopy and metallography are used to complement the fracture toughness testing. Kirkendal porosity is found to be the cause of embrittlement.
