With the proliferation of multimedia communications, miniaturization of portable PCs, and increased performance of these devices, computer-aided lectures and conference systems have become more common. Wireless ad hoc access makes it possible to construct a 32kbit/s data communication network using PHS not only in a room without LAN equipment but virtually anywhere in an ad hoc manner. This paper proposes two wireless ad hoc communication systems, PHS-WRAN (Wireless Room Area Network) and PHS-MBA (Message Board Application). These systems provide a transceiver mode of PHS between portable stations without going through a cell station. The electronic files and message are distributed in relay fashion along the tree. The file distribution time of PHS-WRAN is about a quarter of the conventional scheme when there are 50 clients. The number of frequencies that can be used at the same time is about one-third of the theoretical value.
